Sharm el Sheik 2005

A well deserved holiday!

We enjoyed Sharm el Sheikh so much last year that we decided to go back. This year we stayed in the Sheraton hotel. Although October should be the high season we found the hotel to be only 25% full. Apparently a lot of people cancelled (or just didn't book) their holiday after the 3 car bombs went of in Sharm on 23 July this year.

The hotel itself was beautiful and very luxurious, but the food (we stayed there on Half Board) was mediocre and there wasn't a lot of choice or variation. We had the biggest room we've aver had. The room itself was 14 by 5 meter... amazing! We spend the whole week doing absolutely nothing, just laying on the beach, reading, and snorkeling. The beach area of the Sheraton is about 500 m wide and has a lot of big and widely spaced parasols which are absolutely necessary if you don't want to get a sun burn. Have a look at the pictures we took or watch the video in Medium or High quality.

The house reef of the Sheraton is excellent with a lot of small and some bigger fish. Inge likes to see her small fish from a distance, so when a 60 cm tuna fish came up to 2 meters from her she tried to push it away with her hands....

Michel went to Dabah for 1 day to go diving with his cousin Marcel who has small and very relaxed dive school there (Marine Garden). It was a very nice and relaxed day and I met some great people there. Somehow I managed to lose my passport is a small supermarket there... I only found out when I got back to Sharm and my taxi had to stop for the roadblock where I had to show it to the police... The let me go on to my hotel without it, but I can tell you I got very worried... Worst case scenario: report it lost to the police (probably in Dahab), get a permit to drive to Cairo, wait 2 days there to get a new passport at the Dutch embassy and then have to book a new flight as I would have missed our original flight.... I asked Marcel the next day to ask around in the 3 shops where I went in Dahab and luckily they had found my passport in a small supermarket... Marcel had it dropped off at the hotel the next day.... Phew... Michel does have his moments of good fortune...
