Las Vegas

In the morning Inge and I walked through the Bellagio, the Forum Shops, and the  Mirage.. After a nap we met Arnold & Flo at the Napoleon bar in Paris Las Vegas,  where we sipped some champagne to celebrate the fact that Inge was exactly 13 weeks pregnant.

After changing we went to the MGM grand (at this point still the largest hotel in Vegas with 3500 rooms) where we had dinner at the SeaBlue restaurant, before heading back to Bally’s to go out on the strip to look at the fireworks at midnight.

The strip had been closed for cars since 4 pm and when we went outside at 11 pm it was packed solid with thousands and thousands of people. As it was not allowed to take any glass bottles we had to transfer the Champagne into a plastic bottle…

The countdown for new year was put on the huge screens about 7 minutes early, but at exactly midnight the fireworks started. They lasted 8 minutes and were launched synchronously from 8 hotel roofs along the strip.

Click here to have  a look at the pictures we took that day or watch the video of the fireworks. The local channel KLASTV has made a very nice video stream which gives a good view of the fireworks from the air (don’t know how long they will list it…).

After  3 minutes of gambling (I lost $100 in 3 hands of blackjack) we had a few drinks at the bar before we headed to bed.
