We liked Egypt so much last year that we decided to come back to it. Inge likes a whole week of nothing but sun, sand, reading and a bit of snorkeling and I love the diving there as well. This time we went to Sharm El Sheikh and stayed in the Hilton Makadi Bay. It was a very nice all inclusive hotel. The only downside was that the hotel was built on a narrow plot which was at a pretty steep angle. This meant that from the main restaurant to the beach it was about 200 meter and you went down about 30 meter. Apart from that (and the act that the beach was non-existent we had a great week there. Have a look at the video we shot at the hotel in medium or in high quality.

I also did have my best day diving ever in Sharm when we went to the wreck of the Thistlegorm. It was an English supply vessel sunk by the Germans in WW II. It 's almost fully intact and all the cargo is still there. It amazing to swim through it and to see all the old trucks and motor cycles in the cargo holds. We were very lucky to be there out of season in pretty rough seas. (watch the video in medium of high quality) When we got there we were the first boat, and even when we left 4 hours later there were only 3 or 4 other boats. The meant we had plenty of time on the wreck and didn't have our visibility destroyed by dozens of divers ho went down before us.

My cousin Marcel, who runs a dive shop in Dabab (100 km north of Sharm) invited us there for an evening in the mountains with some Bedouin friends of his. He had trained one of them to become a dive master and they wanted to thank him with a sort of BBQ (a whole lamb, with complete unions and potatoes buried in a pot underneath a wood fire). It was a really nice evening and afterwards we spend the night at his Dive Center. Check out the video in lowmedium or high quality.
