New Year's Eve 2002 we spent with friends in Cluses (near Geneva, but still in France). We arrived the 29th December, too late for the good snow. The only snow left dated back to BC. The last week was ok for skiing, but getting very icy, as there was no new snow coming. Remember the pictures in the travel adds? Forget it! Clouded, windy and snow are not the ideal environment for us novice skiers. But being with Tim, Dawn, Sam, Bishop and Alex made it very much worthwhile.

New Year's Eve was quite different than we Dutch are used to. A public fireworks display started at 19:30 and lasted for about 15 minutes. In Holland we officially start at midnight (although many kids start way before that time). We brought our own fireworks, but had to take them back, as the French don't allow this at midnight (also it was raining... brrr. we preferred to stay inside where the champagne was).

We had a lovely dinner and somewhere during dinner we stumbled into the New Year. No clock, no countdown, no nothing. On the good side: Alex did meet a nice Swiss girl named Sylvie...
