Our Last day in Thailand. We surprised ourselves by being able to put all our stuff, including the suits and my backpack in our original suitcase and Inge's Backpack. After we checked out and left the suitcase at the hotel we went by Sky Train to the Jim Thompson house. Jim Thompson was an American who spend a lot of time collecting original Thai stuff, including whole houses. He also was very important in promoting Thai Silk. He vanished in 1967 while on a trip to the Cameron highlands. His house with the collection intact is really worth seeing. Have a look at their website After the tour we walked back and bought some scarves as souvenirs. As it was close to Siam Square we went there shopping for a mobile phone for Inge. In the end we bought a small Siemens C55 with 3 extra covers (blue, pink and yellow), Sim lock free for about 100 Euro. I bought 9 DVD's at Pantip Plaza. They costed 3 Euro for a single layer DVD and 4,5 Euro for a dual layer DVD. Later we would find that 2 were crap but the others were mostly OK and some were Excellent. This country is definitely the place to go shopping. When we got back to the hotel we were given a room to shower and we packed the last things in the suitcase. We went out for dinner and took a last stroll in the area. At the open area next to the World trade center there was sort of a beer festival with live music. Different brewers each had their pavilion and you could sit where you wanted. We chose the Heineken one and I had my first semi Dutch beer in over 3 weeks. At 11:30 pm the party ended and we returned to the hotel to pick up the suitcases and take a taxi to the airport. The plane left on time (1:30 am) and 10 hours later we once again landed in a cold Amsterdam. |
