After a night with very little sleep we arrived 1½ hours late in Bangkok at 7:30. We got a taxi to the Meridien hotel where we luckily could check in without any problem. After a shower we got some coffee at Starbucks and took the Sky Train and the Chao Praya water taxi to see the Wat Pho. It is famous for housing the largest (46m) reclining Buddha in the world. Very impressive. Have a look at our pictures. After this cultural part we decided to repeat our Shangri-La high tea experience, but this time we would visit the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel which was located almost opposite the Meridien. It's even more beautiful than the Shangri-La. There high tea is a buffet which includes unlimited tea or coffee (hot or cold). My Ice coffee was served as black coffee with ice in a long glass. Next to it were cups with honey (sugar dissolves not very well in cold coffee) and milk: Excellent! The buffet was enormous and they even had a desert buffet with a chocolate fountain. Take a skewer, add a profiterole and dip it in the streaming chocolate! Wanna see Inge do it? All that for only 10 Euro each. After eating way too much we walked to Siam Square to fit our clothes at the tailor. One jacket and a shirt needed some changes, the rest we took back to the hotel by taxi. We wanted to have a look at some mobile phones, but When we reached Pantip Plaza it had just closed. We had a light dinner, as we were not really hungry after the big Hyatt lunch, and went to bed early to catch up on some missed sleep last night |
