Walked back to the pier and took the boat to Krabi. Spend
most of the 2 hours on to and talked to some other backpackers who also were
very disappointed with Phi Phi. When we arrived in Krabi at 11 we had
another 5 hours before the VIP bus left for Bangkok. We left the backpacks
at the bus company and walked into town. After some coffee had a walk
through the town. There is nothing much to see but we bought some souvenirs
(dvd's, shirts and even a almost new Tom Clancy book). We stopped for lunch
at May & Mark, a small restaurant with good food.
Instead of the VIP bus
we were transported by mini-van for the first
2½ hours to another city, where
we had a stopover of 45 minutes. Well the bus we had to get into was
anything but VIP. The airco wasn't working and the bus was only doing about
80 km per hour. On the highway we were constantly overtaken by the real VIP
busses. Just our luck. There was also a major problem with the clutch or the
gears, which got worse and worse. I however was reading happily in my new
Tom Clancy book when they without any warning switched off all interior and
reading lights at 10:30 pm. That got me pissed. And of course they didn't
speak a word of English. I took a sleeping pill and tried to get some sleep.
I even dozed a bit, but was awakened by the sounds of the gearbox every time
he had to change gears. The last 4 hours the bus slowed down to 50 km an
hour and sometimes almost came to a complete stop while they were hitting
the clutch with a rather big hammer.
