We got up at 6 as the truck to the harbor left at 7. The boat to Ko Phi Phi (yes, the island where the movie ´The Beach´ was filmed) took 2 hours. When we got on the island we felt spoiled. After a week of seeing very few people on Ko Lanta we were now on a very small but very crowded island. I’ve never in my life seen so many dive shops together. There must be about 100 of the on 1 square km. There are no cars on the island so you see a lot of Thai who work at the hotels pushing trolleys full with luggage to and from the pier.

After a bite and some coffee we started looking for a place to stay and got another shock: the prices. They were astronomical compared to Ko Lanta. After having checked out 2 hotels which were expensive and full we found the Phi Phi Hotel where we booked a room (for much less than the site tells you). While staying on Ko Lanta we had already decided we would only spend 1 night on Ko Phi Phi and we were glad about it. Sure, the beaches on Phi Phi were better as the ones on Ko Lanta and so was the snorkeling from the beach. But the amount of people on Phi Phi droves us crazy (as did the prices).

We took the Hotel towels, got some sandwiches and went snorkeling at the beach next to the pier. There were many huge speedboats which kept coming and going. When it started raining a bit we had a couple of (you guessed it: expensive) beers at a bar.

In the late afternoon we moved to the swimming pool of the hotel. After a shower we had a walk around the island and picked up a new roll of film for my camera. The sunset on Ko Lanta had taken more film as expected.

We had dinner at one of the small stalls along the road where they served half a chicken with corn, rice and spring rolls for next to nothing. Afterwards we had a drink at a pub called Old Amsterdam, which had nothing to do with Holland but was OK.
