As it was a Sunday the Chatuchak weekend market near Mo Chit (at the end of the Sky Train line) was open. Inge was very keen on going there to do some serious shopping. I tried warning her about the weight of her backpack but to no avail; she knew we would leave one suitcase at the hotel while we were backpacking...

The market is huge. It attracts 200.000 people every Saturday and Sunday. It consists of 15.000 stalls on 35 acres of land. The stalls are very closely packed in 26 halls. Some halls have furniture, others have animals (from goldfish to cobras). But most are full with souvenirs and clothes. We bought handkerchiefs, T-shirts, blouses, a Burberry bag with accompanying wallet and off course a Rolex.

Inge was also almost robbed. She had an old small backpack with her which she carried on her back. She was walking behind me and felt that she was being pushed. As the it was relatively quiet there she didn't trust it and stopped to let 3 girls pass. When she looked at her bag she noticed it had been sliced with a razor blade. The blade went trough the first 2 layers of material but did not penetrate the inside layer of the bag.  From that point on we made sure to carry everything in front of us.

We took the Sky Train back to the hotel and went for a swim in the swimming pool of the Royal Meridien on the 37th floor.

In the evening we walked to the Siam Square tailor for another fitting session. Afterwards we had another drink in the Siam Center shopping mall which is also known for it's wide selection of backpacks. As I still didn't have one we bought one there and walked the 2 km back to the hotel.
